Presiding Clerk, Bruce Henry, with support from Quaker Peace & Legislation Committee (QPLC) and QA Peaceworker, Jessica Morrison, has written to the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister on behalf of Quakers Australia, expressing deep concern over Israel’s recent military incursions into the West Bank. Since the 19 January Gaza temporary ceasefire announcement, over 40,000 people have been forcibly displaced—the largest displacement in the West Bank since 1967.
In the letter, QPLC urges the Australian government to take action, warning that continued military incursions undermine the prospects for a just and peaceful future in the region. The letter also expresses deep distress over Israel’s decision to halt all aid to Gaza, a clear violation of international law.
