Canberra & Region Quakers

Please Return Our Banners!

Canberra & Region Quakers are disappointed that for the second time in three months, two banners urging action about the climate emergency have been removed from the boundary fence of the Friends Meeting House on the corner of Condamine and Bent Streets,Turner.

The banners had the text LOVE OUR PACIFIC NEIGHBOURS!  NO NEW COAL AND GAS, and PROTECT CREATION:  NO NEW COAL AND GAS.

Friends (Quakers) are led to call for the responsible stewardship of the Earth, plant and animal diversity, and all peoples.

Our banners were part of a program of action co-ordinated by the Australian Religious Response to Climate Change and in support of a world-wide Faiths 4 Climate Justice Week of Action (3-12 May 2024) calling for a clear plan to get us out of the climate crisis and move boldly and rapidly away from coal and gas and towards a sustainable future.

Canberra Quakers will continue to raise our voices in support of measures to mitigate the effects of climate change.

We would appreciate having the banners back. They are a distinctive colour and each is 3m x 1m in size (see below)
