IPAN has identified two issues that need urgent action: Australia’s arms deal with Elbit Systems and the ABC’s apparent pro-nuclear power stance.
ACTION ONE – PETITION: CANCEL AUSTRALIAN MILITARY CONTRACT WITH ELBIT SYSTEMS
Sign the petition for the Australian military to cancel its contract with Elbit systems.
Elbit Systems is an Israel-based international military technology company and defense contractor. Founded in 1966 by Elron, Elbit Systems is the primary provider of the Israeli military’s land-based equipment and unmanned aerial vehicles. The weapons technology manufactured by Elibit Systems is being used by the Israeli military to commit horrendous daily war crimes and genocide.
This petition to the government is seeking the cancellation of the Israeli company Elbit Systems contract with the Australian military: https://www.aph.gov.au/e-petitions/petition/EN5997/sign
Please circulate this petition as widely as you can.
ACTION TWO: EMAIL THE ABC (AUSTRALIA) PRO-NUCLEAR ENERGY STANCE IN RECENT PROGRAM
1. Watch the 7.30 Report from 4 April 2024 and Write to the ABC
Please consider watching https://www.abc.net.au/news/2024-04-04/the-debate-over-nuclear-power-is-about-to-heat-up/103671308
In this program entitled ‘The debate over nuclear power is about to heat up’. The ABC appears, for example, to take a pro-nuclear energy stance and, in IPAN’s view, misrepresents the facts about nuclear power.
2. After you’ve watched the program, if you are concerned about the way the issues were presented, please send an email via the ABC complaints portal https://www.abc.net.au/contact/complain.htm
3. See the ATTACHED SAMPLE EMAIL, which you are encouraged to adapt to your own words.
4. Afterwards please email Jonathan via ipan.alicesprings@gmail.com to inform that you have sent an email to the ABC.
