APWLD Webinar Series: 3 – Finding Ways to Collectively Confront Militarism

Intensifying militarisation, led by major powers such as the United States, China and Russia, is deepening harm across Asia and the Pacific.

The webinar series, organised by the Asia Pacific Forum on Women, Law & Development (APWLD), highlights the diversion of national budgets toward military spending at the expense of essential social services, while noting that a small fraction of global military expenditure could address hunger, vaccination, climate adaptation and education needs. The text frames militarism as rooted in imperialism, economic dominance and the pursuit of global hegemony, with severe consequences for Indigenous communities, the environment and women affected by violence and displacement.

In response, APWLD is launching the campaign No To Militarism and Imperialist Wars, Feminist Peace and Justice Now!, beginning with a webinar series that will amplify women’s experiences of militarism, expose its impacts on communities and ecosystems, build public awareness and political education, and strengthen collective demands for feminist peace and justice across the region.
