Antarctica: The Giant Awakens. Sat 20 July, 4-6.00pm AEST Canberra
Directed by social entrepreneur and documentary-maker, Liz Courtney, who has recently received Global awards from Women Changing the World for her work in Media and in Science, Tech and Engineering, this film is both beautiful and challenging.
Created when Liz was Artist in Residence at the the Earth Observatory of Singapore, the film sheds light on the looming threat of sea level rise. Despite Antarctica’s geographical distance from the tropical landscapes of Australia, Oceania, and Asia, the rapidly changing Antarctic ice sheet presents a significant danger to these regions, with potential global implications.
Liz, who is also a WCC member, has generously offered us the film for this WCC ACT event. Thank you so much Liz!. So, by coming along to see this scientifically revealing and visually stunning film you are not only expanding your understanding of this often ignored but critical aspect of climate change, you are also supporting the WCC. We’d love to see you and your friends there.
Don’t wait to BOOK as seating is limited. Please also consider a donation to support the work of the WCC.
The panel discussion after the film is a great bonus
Talking after a film like this can add immeasurably to its impact so we are delighted to have a great panel join us for the afterglow of the film. Together, our panel which comprises Liz Courtney, Professor Dorrit Jacob (Director, ANU School of Earth Science) and Dr Mark Hoggard (Research Fellow, ANU Research School of Earth Sciences) in conversation with Dr Janet Salisbury and you, the audience, will take us further into the impact of climate change on frozen lands and how women leaders are taking this important discussion forward.
More details on the speakers and this event are available on the events page of the WCC website.
