AUKUS – Will It Keep Us Safe and at What Cost?

November 19 @ 6:30 pm - 7:30 pm
Free

Join Greens Leader David Shoebridge and Dr Richard Denniss, at Verity Lane Market for a timely conversation about AUKUS and the future of Australia’s defence.

The old international order is breaking down, and armed conflict has risen around the world over the past decade. So far, the government’s answer has been to bet big on AUKUS, the defence pact between Australia, the US and the UK. But what does the right defence policy for Australia look like, and should we be putting all our defence eggs in the AUKUS basket?

A rupturing of the old international order has led to an increase in armed conflict over the last decade.

Proxy conflicts such as the Houthi attacks in Yemen are also on an upward trajectory. In this fast changing and uncertain geo-political landscape, what does an appropriate defence policy look like for Australia?

The government’s answer to date has been to invest in AUKUS, the defence pact between Australia the US, and the UK. Join Federal Greens Leader, David Shoebridge and Dr Richard Denniss for a timely Politics in the Pub discussion exploring the future of Australia’s defence capability and asking the question – should Australia be investing all its defence eggs in the AUKUS basket?

Will AUKUS keep Australia safe or make us a target in future wars?
