People’s Blockade 2024 + Canberra Wave Event

26-28 November: People’s Blockade Community Action Event!

“This November, we’re coming together for one of the most significant climate uprisings on the planet”.

Rising Tide is a people’s community action movement organising this year’s People’s Blockade followed by the Canberra Wave. It will be groundbreaking family friendly ‘protestival’, all in one. 10,000 people over 10 days ~ Stopping coal leaving the world’s largest coal port for an unprecedented 50 hours.

The follow-up Canberra Wave (Tuesday to Thursday 24-26 November) will bring the message of “no more coal exports” to the last sitting day of Federal Parliament for 2024.

Canberra Quakers are already part of the Canberra organising group, and we are looking for more volunteers to participate in planned events. These include:

1. joining the main rally on Wednesday 25 November,
2. offering accommodation to Rising Tide participants from interstate, and
3. staffing a tent that will be a base for a ‘faith’ group presence at the rally.

Friends from other Regional Meetings will be joining the Canberra Wave after participation in the blockade at Newcastle. Our Meeting House is likely to be a centre for gathering and dispersal. Let’s show that Canberra Quakers really care about the environment and what’s happening with the climate around the planet.
