Colonisation and Resistance: Palestine, Israel and the Struggle for Liberation – Webinar

July 3 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Free
A webinar highlighting the current crisis in Gaza and Palestine as a whole, with a focus on aspects of colonisation, resistance, and the struggle for liberation.

Hamas’s October 7 sudden and violent break-out of the Gaza siege, which has been installed for the past 17 years, is seen to be a watershed moment not only for the Palestinians in Gaza, but for the entire region if not the entire world!

In retaliation, and under the pretext of destroying Hamas, the state of Israel has initiated what the International Court of Justice (IJC) has described as a plausible act of genocide against Gazans which has thus far resulted in the killing of more than 37,000 Palestinians including more than 16,000 children, has left more than 85,000 injured, and totally destroyed all means of life and livelihood in the Gaza strip.

Important questions which have been consistently left out of the mainstream discourse, especially in the Australian media, include:

  • Where does Hamas fit within the Palestinian resistance movement against the Zionist settler colonial project?
  • What is the historical context and significance of Hamas’s October 7 offensive?
  • How has the current genocidal war on Gaza changed the prospect of a peaceful resolution in Palestine/Israel?
  • How has the genocide affected on both societies’ perception of their leadership?

To answer these questions and more, join us with Miko Peled, Professor Khaled Hroub and Sara Saleh in a wide-ranging discussion of the current crisis in Gaza and Palestine, its historic and international context; and the ongoing failure of international diplomacy to bring about a peaceful resolution to the decades-long Palestinian struggle for freedom.

Miko Peled
is an American Israeli human rights activists and one of the clearest voices calling for justice in Palestine and support of the Palestinian call for Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS). He is the author of “The General’s Son: Journey of an Israeli in Palestine” and “Injustice: The Story of the Holy Land Foundation Five”. Miko travels regularly to Palestine where he speaks and works with the popular resistance, the BDS movement, and other justice groups.

Khaled Hroub is a Palestinian professor in residence of the faculty of liberal arts at North Western University in Qatar. He authored several books, including “Hamas: A Beginners Guide”, “Hamas: Political Thought and Practice”, and edited “Political Islam: Context versus Ideology” and “Religious Broadcasting in the Middle East”. He is also a poet and novelist, whose works include “Ink of the Sun” and “I Slap the Face of the Sky and Go on”.

Sara Saleh  is an award-winning writer, human rights lawyer, and the daughter of Palestinian, Lebanese and Egyptian migrants. She is a long-term organiser for the justice for Palestine movement, grounded in black-Palestinian solidarity, and focused on empowering our communities movement with legal and political tools in service of liberation.

The discussion is held online via Zoom. The link will be emailed closer to the date of the webinar.
