September 21 @ 9:00 am - September 22 @ 1:00 pm
FreeFrom Raising Peace…
“We have some exciting news to share as they prepare for our 2024 annual peace festival. This year we’re teaming up with World Beyond War for a conference spanning 4 continents: #NoWar2024: Resisting the USA’s Military Empire.
Starting on the morning of the International Day of Peace, 21 September, this conference will feature speakers from Australia, then Germany, Colombia and the USA discussing the many ways that American military power projects itself around the world – and how we can stand against it. This will occur in person and online.
In Australia we’ll be looking at the long-standing issue of United States’ military bases on Australian soil but also taking in First Nations impacts, the reach of the military into our education system, environmental impacts and looking to how Australia can stand up as an independent state.
We are particularly delighted that the conference will be in person, as well as streamed around the world! So mark in your diaries Saturday 21 September and come along to the Sydney Mechanics’ School of Arts, 280 Pitt St.
We are currently putting our program of speakers together and already have some great speakers confirmed. You can read more about the conference here, as we update it. Please note there will be a small fee to attend the conference.
There’s more to the festival than the conference
As in past years the 2024 Raising Peace festival will feature a selection of online events, running from around 14 – 22 September. We are beginning to put the program together, and you can see its outline here. We’ll be talking about practices of faith and peace, discussing progress on Women, Youth, Peace and Security and more.
We are also starting things off early this year, marking Hiroshima Day with a concert at the Gaelic Club on 6 August.
If you have an idea for a session, or would like us to promote your own events to mark the international day of peace, please email us at mail@raisingpeace.org.au.
